Philippine Nurses Association of San Antonio, Inc.

The PNASA is an educational, professional, voluntary, non-sectarian, and a non profit organization. It was founded on March 1989 with 17 strong Filipino nurses, 16 were officers and 1 adviser.

The purpose of the PNASA shall be to provide a structure that will uphold the professional positive image and foster the welfare of the Filipino-American nurses in San Antonio, Texas and nearby counties.

PNASA objectives are:

Promote professional nursing standards as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing and accrediting agencies in the United States.
Collaborate with professional organizations and agencies to develop and implement educational programs related to nursing practice, administration, education and research.
Provide support to the new Filipino-American nurses relevant to their orientation to the health care system and cultural adjustment in San Antonio.
Encourage participation of its members in professional, educational, research, and community activities.
Support the goals and objectives of the Philippine Nurses Association of America.

MARCH 1989

A small group of Filipino nurses gathered together and founded the Philippine Nurses Association of San Antonio (PNASA). The organization was created in "response to the needs of the Filipino nurses in San Antonio to serve as a mechanism to deal with professional issues and concerns."

MAY 4, 1989

The first Executive Board of PNASA was inducted at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio by Dr. Patty L. Hawken, Dean of School of Nursing.

The Founding Officers:

Vice President: Rosalina Vasquez

Secretary: Liza Oliviano

Treasurer: Delia Villacorte

Auditor: Lita Guiao

Founding Board of Directors:

Brenda Abaya, Fe Carreon, Adora Celora, Phoebe Collins, Elena Garcesa, Susan Jimenez, Gloria Medellin, and Rose Taguiam.

The Founding Advisor: Dr. Adele B. Campos.

AUGUST 1989

Dr. Guillermo Villacorte designed the PNASA logo.

MARCH 16, 1990

The First Anniversary celebration held at the Holiday Inn Northwest, San Antonio, TX with Honorable Antonio L Ramirez, Consul General of the Philippines- Houston as the guest speaker.

SEPTEMBER 1992

PNASA became a chapter member of the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA).

OCTOBER 1992

PNASA was recognized as a Non-profit Organization. The Secretary of State of Texas approved the Articles of Incorporation of PNASA, consequently changing the name of the association to PHILIPPINE NURSES ASSOCIATION OF SAN ANTONIO, INC.

1993

PNASA, Inc. granted Tax Exemption status under 501(c)3

1994

The PNASA hosted the PNAA 15th National Convention under President Cely Alcantara with the theme "The Wind of Change: Visions of Health care and Nursing in the 21st Century".
